In May 2014 I hit my all-time heaviest weight and overall unhealthiest body condition. I had to make a change and the only way I could think of was to run and change my eating habits. I strongly disliked running but I’ve seen others take it on and find that they’ve come to love it, so I wanted to give it a try. I sought the help of my friend and Personal Trainer Lindsey Passaic Frank. Together we came up with a goal – to be able to run the Disney Princess Half Marathon the following February with training starting June 1st. Even with an ocean between us she encouraged me with weekly emails designed to inspire me through music, quotes, my training plan, cross training tips, recipes, and nutrition facts that kept each week interesting. She gave me weekly and monthly goals to hit so my overall goal didn’t seem as daunting, like attending a fitness class, finding a local running club, and subscribing to Naturebox. The entire time I felt like she was my teammate and coach and that I wasn’t on my journey alone. She would check in through email, gchat, Whatsapp, Skype--pretty much any form of social media available. She was always accessible when I had a question or needed some advice. By following her on Instagram and Facebook, she motivated me with fitness activities and the nutritional food she was making in order to maintain her own health and fitness.August came around and on her visit to the US she ran a 5K with me, my first that I was able to run completely. October came around and she was there when I ran my first 10K. When February finally came, she provided me with tips for running my first half marathon and even helped me pick out my Disney costume I would run in :). She helped give me confidence by reminding me of all the hard work I had under my belt from the previous 9 months of training and that she knew I was ready. During my race I listened to the playlist that she compiled through all the music she had sent me with my weekly emails and heard her voice when I needed a push. Since completing my first Half Marathon in February 2015, I have also completed the DC Rock ’n’ Roll Half Marathon, the DC Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run, and most recently the New England Tough Mudder. Lindsey helped me cross the bridge that I needed to in order to make a lifestyle change. Her guidance and friendship could not be measured during my experience and I would recommend her to anyone who is ready to embrace a happier and healthier life.
